GPT-6 Builds Interactive Tools Mid-Chat, Starting Today

OpenAI is rolling out GPT-6 and a new Intelligent UI in ChatGPT, letting the model generate buttons, charts, and on-the-fly tools like calculators instead of plain text answers.

What is the Intelligent UI, exactly?

OpenAI says GPT-6 now decides how to lay out each response based on the question asked. That can mean buttons, forms, charts, or a tool built for the specific task — a savings calculator, a bill splitter, a small game — generated inside the conversation. Plain text still shows up when that's the better format.

This isn't the first interactive feature in ChatGPT. Interactive charts arrived in June. Interactive modules for more than 70 math and science topics were added in March. GPT-6's Intelligent UI extends that pattern into a general-purpose layout engine rather than a set of fixed features.

Users who don't want the extra visuals can turn off the Layout and visuals setting on the web. OpenAI's help page notes some visual elements may still appear anyway.

Who gets it, and when?

The rollout starts today in the Chat tab for Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise plans. Free and Go users get it starting tomorrow. Enterprise access depends on admin settings.

In Chat, GPT-6 runs on GPT-6 Sol for the plans included in today's release, and on GPT-6 Luna for Free and Go. Sol and Luna actually launched back on September 22, but only for ChatGPT Work, Codex, and the API — not yet for Chat, which is what changes today.

GPT-6 replaces the "Latest" option in the model menu. GPT-5.6 Sol remains available separately for anyone who wants it. The Pro thinking level still runs on GPT-6 Astra and does not support the Intelligent UI. Neither do the older ChatGPT desktop apps for macOS and Windows. Models behind ChatGPT Work and Codex are unchanged by this update.

Does this change search and sourcing?

GPT-6 can start answering while it's still thinking or using tools, then add more detail without the user re-asking. For questions that require web search, OpenAI says GPT-6 Instant starts answering 44% sooner on average than GPT-5.6 Instant.

OpenAI also claims GPT-6 makes better calls on when to search and more reliably backs up answers with supporting information. In an internal test of difficult questions, the company says GPT-6 addressed the core of the user's question more often than GPT-5.6 — no figure given.

What the announcement doesn't cover: how sources appear when an answer comes back as a chart, comparison, or tool rather than text. ChatGPT's search help page says web-search-based answers may include citations, accessible through a Sources button when available. That mechanism isn't confirmed for the new tool-based outputs.

Roomer Editorial's take

Roomer Editorial's view: the tools OpenAI is highlighting — a savings calculator, a bill splitter — are generic. They run on public math, not on a specific hotel's cancellation policy or a specific neighborhood's walkability. That's by design, and it's also the limit of what this release threatens right now.

A creator posting "best hotels near Shibuya station" content isn't competing with a bill splitter. If ChatGPT starts generating trip-comparison tools or itinerary builders from generic prompts, that's a different conversation — but today's rollout doesn't claim that capability.

The bigger open question is citations. If ChatGPT increasingly answers travel questions as charts or interactive comparisons instead of linked text, where does a creator's original review end up — cited, paraphrased, or invisible. OpenAI hasn't said, and that's the detail worth watching, not the UI itself.

Our read: this doesn't change what a travel creator should be doing. Own the page the answer eventually points back to. A booking page on your own site, with your own video, still earns the commission when someone clicks through — not when ChatGPT draws a nicer chart.

Action: check whether your existing hotel or tour content gets cited when you ask ChatGPT a question it would answer, and see what shows up in the Sources button.
