Shopify Auto-Enrolls Eligible Stores Into Every New AI Shopping Channel

What happened. Shopify's "Allow Shopify to manage for me" setting auto-enrolls eligible merchants into new agentic storefront channels, including Meta's Muse, which launched Sept. 8, 2026. The setting is on by default, and Shopify's documentation states merchants are "auto-enrolled in new agentic storefronts channels." Meta, Copilot, and Google each have direct checkout, meaning a customer can pay without opening the merchant's website; ChatGPT instead sends the customer to the store's own checkout, in an in-app browser or a new tab. Shopify says Google Analytics and custom pixels won't fire in the Google and Copilot checkouts, and that third-party analytics pixels don't fire in Meta's checkout.

Our take (opinion). If you sell merch or anything else through Shopify, a setting you never touched is deciding who gets your product data and who can check a customer out without ever landing on your site. That's the opposite of running your own distribution.

One move this week. Open Sales channels > Agentic in your Shopify admin this week and check every toggle instead of assuming the defaults match what you'd choose.

Google Extends Loyalty Customer Match To AI Mode And Gemini

What happened. Google updated its Merchant Center help documentation for the merchant loyalty program. The changes add AI Mode and Gemini as surfaces for Loyalty Customer Match, move the feature onto the Merchant API, state explicitly that loyalty participation is open to non-advertisers, and clarify that qualifying programs cannot require eventual payment, including certain free trials. The documentation also adds a country-by-country availability matrix and expands the program to 14 countries, adding India, Italy, the Netherlands, South Korea, and Spain.

Our take (opinion). If you run a membership or rewards program tied to your own bookable pages, this is a distribution surface worth checking, not a reason to build one you don't need.

One move this week. If you already have a loyalty or repeat-booking program, confirm in Merchant Center whether your country and setup now qualify.

AI Overview Tracking Parameter Turns Out To Be A Browser Extension, Not Google

What happened. Search Engine Roundtable reported sightings of a tracking parameter, ?st_source=ai_overview, appended to links inside Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode, after a LinkedIn post by Tom Pool. The outlet later updated the piece twice to say the parameter came from a Chrome browser extension modifying URLs, not from Google itself.

Our take (opinion). A plausible-looking attribution signal turned out to be a browser extension harvesting link data, not a Google feature. That's a reminder to verify SEO rumors before changing anything.

One move this week. Ignore this one in your own tracking setup until Google confirms anything officially.

An Agency's Step-By-Step Process For Building Content Roadmaps In The AI Overview Era

What happened. Search Engine Journal published an agency's step-by-step process for building an SEO content roadmap aimed at AI Overview visibility. The process starts by mapping every keyword to a business outcome, then builds a keyword universe and clusters terms by business intent rather than by the tool's ranking-overlap groupings. The article cites an Ahrefs finding that a top-ranking page loses roughly 58% of its clicks when an AI Overview appears on that search result page.

Our take (opinion). A destination guide ranking first means less than it used to once an AI Overview sits above it. Chasing a broad, top-of-funnel term without checking whether an AI Overview already owns that result can mean writing for a click that was never coming.

One move this week. Pull your top guide pages, check which target terms show an AI Overview, and prioritize the clusters that map to an actual booking click over the ones that just map to volume.
